The NL Central Cincinnati Reds:

The Cincinnati Reds began playing Major League Baseball in 1876. The Reds were known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings the first year and were also briefly known as the Cincinnati Redlegs. For three years The Reds played at Avenue Grounds. Afterward in 1880 they played at Bank Street Grounds. The Reds got into a little trouble this year for selling beer on the grounds and they were kicked out of the National League for ten years. Returning to the National League in 1890, the Reds now played at Redland Field. Redland Field tragically burned down in 1900. When the new grandstand was built in 1902; they renamed the stadium Palace of the Fans. After many renovations; the park was officially renamed Redland Field in 1912 and later became known as Crosley Field once Powell Crosley bought the team in 1934. This stadium had a seating capacity of approximately 29,600 and cost $225,000 to build. In 1970 the Reds relocated to Cinergy Field first known as Riverfront Stadium. This stadium cost 45 million dollars to build and had a much larger seating capacity of approximately 52,900. The surface was made up of Astro Turf and later replaced by grass in 2000. The Reds shared this stadium with the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL). In the year 2000 a new stadium was being built for the Reds in close proximity to Cinergy Field. 14,000 seats had to be removed from the stadium in order to allow construction for the new stadium. This allowed the fans to see the river from the stands and also watch the happenings of the future stadium; Great American Ballpark. Great American Ballpark was completed in the year 2003. This new and improved stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 42,000. It cost 297 million dollars to build.

The Cincinnati Reds won their first World Series on October 9, 1919. Playing the Chicago White Sox; Cincinnati prevailed 8-3. The Reds second World Series victory happened in 1940. Playing the Detroit Tigers; The Reds won 4-3. The 70’s were incredible for the Reds, winning the World Series twice that decade. In 1975, playing against the Boston Red Sox (4-3) and again one year later (1976) playing the New York Yankees creaming them 4-0! In 1990 The Reds won the World Series for the fifth time. Playing the Oakland Athletics, The Reds won 4-0.
