| The
NL West Colorado Rockies:
The Colorado Rockies (expansion team) debut as a Major League Baseball
team was in 1993. The Rockies started out playing Major League Baseball
at the Mile High Stadium. The Mile High Stadium first opened in 1948.
Its surface was made up of natural grass. By the time the Rockies moved
in it had a seating capacity of approximately 76,000. They shared the
stadium with the Denver Broncos (NFL) for two seasons before relocating
to Coors Field.
Coors Field opened on April 26, 1995. This new stadium cost about $215
million to build. It has a seating capacity of about 50,380. This
circular modernized stadium also resembles ballparks of the past. It is
constructed with brick and the surface consists of natural grass. It
also features a huge old-fashioned clock above the entrance to the park.
The more modern features include Matrix replay boards and an
“Out-of-Town” scoreboard so you can see the scores of other games being
played. If you are observing the game from the first-base or right-field
seating areas, you will witness a breathtaking view of the Rocky
Mountains.
