Central Kansas City Royals:
The Kansas City Royals made their major
league debut in 1969. They were founded by team owner Ewing Kauffman.
They started out playing in the Kansas City Municipal Stadium from
1969-1972. The stadium was reconstructed before the Royals moved in,
changing seating capacity to 30,611. The Royals played here until 1972
and in 1976 the stadium was demolished.
In 1973 the Royals relocated to Royals Stadium. On July 2nd 1993 there
was a ceremony honoring Ewing Kauffman and the stadium was officially
renamed Kauffman Stadium. Kauffman died just one month later. With a
seating capacity of 40,529; it is known for its remarkable beauty. It
features a spectacular water show. Recent improvements include moving
the outfield fence and straight-away center back and reducing the height
of the fence from 9 ft. to 8 ft.
The Royals really took off. Only three seasons into playing MLB and they
finished second. This was incredible that an expansion team could be
that good that fast and they were hailed “Rookie team of the year.” In
1985 the Royals attained their first World Series victory against the
St. Louis Cardinals. The Royals won the 7th game creaming the Cardinals
11-0 and snatching the World Series title winning four out of seven
games.
