Buffalo Bills:
In 1959 the Bills became the seventh team in the new American Football
League under the ownership of Ralph. C. Wilson. The Bills have
experienced their fare share of the highs and lows of the game during
their time in the AFL and the NFL when the two merged in 1970. They got
their first taste of success in their fourth season when they tied with
the Boston Patriots for the AFL Eastern division championship, but lost
in a playoff. However in 1964 and 1965 they were not denied when they
took the division title and went on to win the AFL Championship. Their
head coach, Lou Saban, who had been named the AFL coach of the year left
after the 1965 season and after the 1966 season the Bills sank into a
slump. Lou Saban returned as the Bills head coach in 1972 and pushed
then quarterback O.J. Simpson to his full ability to bring the franchise
back within title range. Saban left once again mid season in 1976 and
the Bills slipped right back into their slump until Chuck Knox came in
as head coach and lifted them to an AFC Eastern Division championship in
1980. After a playoff run in 1981 the Bills faltered into 6 non-winning
seasons. Marv Levy came in as head coach in 1986 and helped bring the
Bills 5 AFC Eastern titles in 6 years and with Jim Kelly as quarterback
the Bills became the only team to ever make it to 4 consecutive super
bowls.
Ralph Wilson Stadium is where the Bills call home. It is one of the most
state of the art facilities in the U.S. with a seating capacity of 73,
967 127 restrooms and one of the largest Sony Jumbotrons in the U.S. It
covers 113 acres has an astroplay surface and subsurface pipes for
drainage purposes. It was once drew a crowd of 80, 368 for a game
against the Miami Dolphins in 1992.
