2007 Team Schedule

The AFC South Tennessee Titans:

K.S. “Bud” Adams Jr. announced mid year in 1959 that Houston would be receiving an AFL franchise. Adams swiftly named his team the Oilers and signed on Heisman trophy winner Billy Cannon. The Oilers got off to an electrifying start, winning back to back AFL Championships in 1960 and 1961, becoming the first franchise to win and AFL title. They missed picking up a third straight title in 1962 when they lost to the Dallas Texans in what was at the time the longest played football ever running just a few seconds shy of 78 minutes. The 1960 and 1961 AFL wins remain the only league titles the Oilers have won, but they earned several divisional titles over the years. Many coaches helped see the Oilers to the post season over the years. They won that first championship in 1960 with head coach Lou Rymkus. Wally Lemm took over in 1961 to lead the team back to the AFL title. Frank “Pop” Ivy took over as head coach and in 1967 Wally Lemm returned and led the team to an eastern division title. “Bum” Phillips and Jerry Glanville both saw the Oilers to 3 post seasons. In the early 1990’s Jack Pardee held the reigns as head coach an in 1991 he brought the Oilers to their first Divisional championship in 24 years.
In 1997 the Oilers packed up and headed to Tennessee, becoming the first NFL franchise to make the state of Tennessee their home. In 1999 it was decided that a new name for the team was in order. The name Oilers was retired and the name Titans was adopted, and on April 13th 1999 the team unveiled there new uniforms in front of a huge audience. That year saw the Titans win the AFC Championship and play in Super Bowl XXXIV.

The Titans play at the Coliseum in Nashville Tennessee which was opened in 1999 at a cost of $290 million. The Coliseum has 3 tiers of seating. The lower level circles the entire field while the upper two levels run both sides of the field with the scoreboards set up at both endzones. There are 144 luxury suites and 9600 club seats. The Coliseum has a seating capacity of 67,000 has a natural grass surface.
